The Focus Diagnostic
Ten questions about what your work day actually looks like. Two minutes. At the end you get a diagnosis - the specific way your focus fails, and what fixes that way.

The six focus failure modes
Focus doesn't fail one way. It fails in patterns, and the fix depends on the pattern. The diagnostic distinguishes six of them, drawn from published attention research and from watching how knowledge work actually falls apart on a Mac.
Common questions
What is the Focus Diagnostic?
A free two-minute assessment that identifies which of six focus failure modes best matches how your attention actually breaks during work: task bouncing, tab accumulation, interrupt chasing, rabbit holing, system churn, or feed loops. Each answer describes a concrete work scenario rather than asking you to rate yourself, and the result explains the mechanism behind your pattern and what fixes it.
Is this a scientific or medical test?
No. It is a structured self-assessment built on published, peer-reviewed attention research, including Gloria Mark's interruption studies at UC Irvine and Sophie Leroy's work on attention residue. Where a popular statistic turned out to come from a press interview rather than a paper, as the widely quoted 23 minute figure does, we use the published number instead. It is not a clinical instrument and does not screen for ADHD or any other condition. If focus problems are seriously affecting your life, talk to a professional.
Do you store my answers?
Your answers stay in your browser. There is no account, no email gate, and nothing you enter is sent to a server. Your progress is kept in your browser's local storage so a page refresh does not lose your place.
Why do the results sometimes recommend other apps?
Because two of the six failure modes respond better to other approaches. A pure feed habit responds well to hard blockers like Cold Turkey, and interrupt-driven attention improves a lot with built-in macOS Focus modes. Hugo is built for the modes where blocklists fail - when your distractions are legitimate work. Recommending it for the others would be marketing, and the diagnosis stops working the moment it becomes marketing.

AI-Powered Focus
The focus app that thinks for you.
Hugo sits between you and distraction. It hides your apps, locks down your browser, and uses AI to silently decide if what you're opening is actually work - so you never have to burn willpower again.
